Peace and soft quiet.
Is this what people who dream
Believe what heaven will be?
How have I lived this far into my life
All of these places
Imagined all of the magical scenes I’ve imagined
And not ever allowed myself to soak in quiet before?
Hush!
Hush the perpetual motion of your mind!
At peace at last with the imperfections and failings.
My imperfections and failings.
And yours.
Peace and soft quiet!
Moments to rest before I sleep.
A world pieced together of Frost and Shakespeare.
Linda Gregg and Albert Schweitzer.
Rose Tremain and William Blake.
All together, standing at a wooden bridge in a forest.
In the end it’s not much more complicated than the sharing.
Our piece of living understanding with yours.
Is this what people who dream
Believe what heaven will be?
Peace and soft quiet are gold
And more golden even when shared.
Where love is found
When love is at peace.
Two pairs of eyes shining like waterfalls in bathing suits.
I’m sorry.
This American mind of mine refuses to quit.
It flashes before me Citizen Kane’s snow globe descending the stairs to “Rosebud.”
Ben and Elaine riding in the back seat of a bus
Everyone silently looking at her wedding gown.
Tom Hanks on a deserted bit of sand with Wilson.
Almásy and Katharine in the Cave of Swimmers.
The final moment, “Go in peace!” of Bernstein’s Mass.
Resting with my vision of Christ’s moment of peace.
And my prayer that a piece of me will live on in peace.
